Connecting Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet To Wifi
If you have already set up your WiFi network and your Fire is behaving correctly, the above procedure must connect your Fire tablet to your network and you should be able to use the Internet almost immediately. If you are not worried about battery depletion, you can leave WiFi on and it will automatically join the network as soon as it detects it. Otherwise, if you prefer to save your battery when you can, manually activating and disabling the WiFi connection takes only a second. To connect a Fire tablet to your WiFi network for the first time, follow these steps:
- Unlock the tablet and drag the home screen down.
- Select WiFi and turn it on.
- Select your network and select Connect.
- Enter the network password.
It may take a few seconds for your Fire to authenticate on your network, but once the fire is complete, the Fire must connect immediately. You must also remember the network and log in automatically next time. When I tried to connect my Fire tablet to my WiFi network, she told me she could not authenticate on the network. I know that I was properly configured because half a dozen other devices use it and none of them had any problems.
Manual Wifi Setup
If your Fire tablet does not automatically connect to your wireless network, you can manually configure it. It is quite simple and can work around any configuration issues you may encounter.
- Slide the Home screen to access the wireless network, then turn on WiFi.
- Select Join another network.
- Type your network name in the SSID area of the network.
- Select the appropriate security type from the drop-down menu.
- Type the network password and select Save.
If you do not know the type of network security, check your router. It will be somewhere on the wireless page. It can be WPA, WPA2-PSK, WPA2-AES or something like that. Hopefully this will be WPA2 because if it’s WPA, it means your network is not secure.
To troubleshoot and fix the Wi-Fi issues:
- Check the status of your device. Your device can help you understand what’s wrong with some common problems. Slide your finger from the top of the screen, tap Help, and then tap Device Status.
- Make sure other devices can connect to your network. If they can not connect, you may need to contact your ISP for additional help.
- Make sure airplane mode is off. Slide your finger from the top of the screen. If airplane mode is on, tap the icon to turn it off.
- Check your Wi-Fi password. If you have forgotten or do not know your Wi-Fi password, you may need to contact the manufacturer of your router or your Internet service provider for additional help.
- Make sure you have the latest version of the software. Install the latest version of the wireless software if you can connect to. You can also download and transfer the software update to your device via USB. For more information, see Fire and Kindle Software Updates.
