Not all apps and services are compatible with Google Chromecast. Amazon Prime Video is one of these applications. While Netflix, the biggest rival of Prime Video, is Chromecast compatible from the beginning, Amazon Prime Video still lives in the dark era. But there are two ways to remedy this lack of compatibility. In this article, we show you how to watch Amazon Prime on your TV with Chromecast.
Watch Amazon Prime with Chromecast
For this option to work, you must first have certain prerequisites.
- The latest version of the installed Chrome browser or a Chromebook device.
- Chromecast device plugged into your TV or Android TV.
- An Amazon Prime subscription is not required, but it will of course give you access to more content. Make sure your Chromecast device is connected to your home network and is working properly. You can test it by installing the Google Home app and making sure your Chromecast device is recognized. Once you know that your Chromcast device is plugged into your TV and is working properly, you are ready to play Amazon Prime on the device.
Stream Amazon Prime to Chromecast with Google Chrome
Using Google Chrome, sign in to your Amazon Prime account and search for a movie or TV show you’d like to stream. Go ahead and start the Amazon video in your browser. After the video plays, select the three dots in the upper right corner of the Chrome window and select Cast. This will bring up another window that will show all the Google devices detected on your home network on which the browser is able to transform this tab. Choose the TV to which your Chromecast device is connected. You will see the camera turn blue once the cast is launched.
Freedom to Cast Amazon Prime
It is unfortunate that Amazon is one of the few video streaming services to have chosen not to participate in the casting. The last thing to do is to buy a Fire TV device. This will only reward the fact that Amazon refuses to integrate with other devices. There is no way for Amazon to prevent you from showing your Chrome browser tab. This is the ideal solution until Amazon finally decides to add a streaming feature to its video streaming service.
