The H505 error of QuickBooks poses a problem with the “multi-user hosting configuration”. When a user tries to open a company file on a computer from a different computer, the H505 error is a problem.
The QuickBooks error H505 is basically a code belonging to an error group that occurs when users attempt to access a company that is not on their system. The error can also occur when the user tries to access the file that is not configured correctly. The H505 error code is one of the codes in the series, including the error codes – 6000 82, H101, H202, and H303. These errors may appear for the same reason.
What is causing the QuickBooks H505 error?
- The .ND file is corrupt
- Incorrect hosting configuration settings
- When you try to access the file placed in another system, but the software does not reach the server
- The Quick Books software can not communicate with a shared connection.
- When attempting to open the company file placed on another computer, but requiring additional installation.

Solutions to solve Quickbooks Error H505
Solution 1: Create a new company record
- First, generate a ‘Replacement Folder’ on the host computer. Now share the original folder and Windows access permissions to share the company files.
- If you do not have access to the digital computer, contact a qualified computer specialist.
- In the new folder, copy the .qbw file back to multiuser mode.
- You can now open the company file.
Solution 2: Open Network Ports Used by QuickBooks to Share Knowledge·
• Configure firewall settings
- Access the Windows Firewall settings and right-click Windows Option to click on the dashboard. Now type ‘Firewall’ in the search bar and press Enter. Click Windows Firewall and tap the Advanced Settings option.·
- Go to the left and right-click on “Outbound Rules” and select “New Rule”.
- Tap Ports, and then tap Next.·
- Click TCP, and in the specific local ports, enter the following ports:
- For QuickBooks Desktop 2018 – 8019,56728,55378-55382
- QuickBooks Desktop 2017-8019,56727,55373-55377
- For QuickBooks Desktop 2016-8019,56726,55368-55372
- For QuickBooks Desktop 2015-8019,56725,55363-55367
- Click Next and select the ‘Allow connection’ option
- Click Next to type the name in the name field and press Finish.
- Repeat steps 1 to 5 for the incoming rules.
- Now return to multi-user mode and open QuickBooks.
- Enable network discovery
- First, open the Control Panel, and then tap System and Security.
- Tap the Windows Firewall
- In the left pane, navigate to Click Allow Application / Associated Feature on the Windows Firewall (if you are on the Windows 2012 server).
- Tap the edit option
- Select Network Discovery and press OK.
Solution 3: Check hosting and service
Check the accommodation
- Open QuickBooks on each workstation (it is not the server or the host computer)
- Next, select File and press Utilities.
- If you see multi-user access on the list, this computer does not host the company file.
- If you see host multiuser access on the workstation, you can switch to the next computer. Here does not change anything.
- If you see “Stop hosting multiuser access,” tap this option.
- On each computer, repeat steps 1 to 3.
