TCL UK TVs: TCL DP608, DP628 and DP648
We will focus on the best selling TCL DP608, TCL DP628 and TCL DP648 TVs on Best Buy. With 4K resolution, HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) support, as well as Freeview Play offering catch-up services, on-demand services and live TV in one place, with no monthly costs, these ranges TCL TVs offer as much you can hope for after the budget.
There are Netflix and YouTube apps for 4K content and various apps that can be installed for SD and HD content. It is unclear if Amazon Prime Video is available on TCL’s television offering. Otherwise, users of this video streaming service should get it via a low-budget video streamer, such as Google Chromecast or an Amazon Fire TV 4K stick. But what about the image? As these TCL TVs are so new to the UK market, we have not played twelve rounds. However, if their specifications, and our experience of cheap 4K TVs, deserve our attention, we would be ready to temper the expectations of 4K HDR performance.
The DP648 models offer you the treatment of the extended color gamut and the brightness + of TCL on the DP608 range, but the brightness levels always reach 320 nits. These TVs will not take full advantage of HDR content. Again, at this price, you might not expect it, but that means we would not rush to pair with a 4K Blu-ray player – advice we also gave about Hisense TVs 4K at the similar price we have recently reviewed. If you want to take the risk, the two or three HDMI inputs of all sets are compatible with 4K streaming from connected 4K sources.
For non-HDR content, however, they should work properly with respect to brightness. And we could only hope – especially given the popularity of the brand abroad – that their levels of color, detail and sharpness were also at the forefront.
TCL US TVs: 1-Series, 3-Series, 4-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series
TCL has five ranges of basic television channels in the United States, offering TVs ranging in size from 28 inches to 75 inches. So, how do the different TCL TVs compare? And for whom should you go? We will take a look.
Series 1 (D100) is a basic HDTV with no Smart TV functionality or Internet connectivity. This is a LED TV, like all TCL TVs, with a refresh rate of 60Hz. You have three HDMI inputs and a USB 2.0 connection, a 60 Hz refresh rate, analog optical and RCA digital outputs, and a standard TCL remote control.
The TCL 3 series (S303, S305, S325) is also an HDTV, but offers wireless connectivity and Smart TV features. It is an LED screen TV with a refresh rate of 60Hz, available in screen sizes of 28 inches, 32 inches, 40 inches, 43 inches and 49 inches. There are three HDMI inputs and a USB 2.0 connection, a digital optical output, the addition of a headphone jack and TCL’s “Easy to Use” remote control. There is also a digital TV tuner. The TCL 32S305, TCL 32S327, TCL 40S325 and TCL 49S325 are among the bestsellers of this range.
The first 4K TCL range is Series 4 (S401, S403, S405, S421, S423, S425). Unsurprisingly, it is not available in screen sizes as small, but starts at 43 inches. There are also 49 “, 55” and 65 “models. Again it’s an LED but here with a refresh rate of 120Hz. You have the option of wireless and Ethernet connections for your Smart TV applications, support for HDR10, as well as three HDMI 2.0 inputs with HDCP 2.2, one with HDMI ARC, a USB 2.0 connection, a digital optical output and a headphone jack. There is also a digital TV tuner and you get TCL’s easy-to-use remote control. The TCL 43S425 and TCL 55S405 are two of the best-selling models here.
Switch to the TCL 5 series (S515, S517) and you get all the above, in the same screen sizes, but with some additional features. It supports Dolby Vision, as well as HDR10, Dynamic Contrast HDR mode, Wide Color Gamut support and the addition of an enhanced remote control with voice control next to the easy-to-use remote control. The TCL 55S517 is one of the most popular sets in this range.
At the top of the stack is the TCL 6 series (R615, R617). Available in 55 “, 65” and 75 “screen sizes, it has all the features and functions above, but adds” contrast control areas “, which we call local dimming. The number of zones (up to 160) depends on the size of the screen. you choose. The TCL 55R617 is the most popular model in this series.
