What is Zonealarm Error 1603 ?

You may encounter an error with a code of 1603 when you try to install zonealarm on your Windows. The error message is basically something like Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. It usually occurs when you use a Windows Installer package to install the program.

Cause of Zonealarm Error 1603

You may receive this error message if any of the following conditions are true:

• Windows Installer tries to install an application already installed on your PC.
•  The folder in which you are trying to install the Windows Installer package is encrypted.
• The drive containing the folder where you are trying to install the Windows Installer package is accessible as a surrogate.
• The System account does not have Full Control permissions on the folder where you are trying to install the Windows Installer package. You notice the error message because the Windows Installer service uses the System account to install the software.

Solution to solve Zonealarm Error 1603

Solution 1: Uninstall and Reinstall the ZoneAlarm Program Associated with Error 1603

1. Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button.
2. Click Control Panel in the right menu.
3. Click Programs.
4. Click Programs and Features.
5. Find ZoneAlarm in the Name column.
6. Click on the ZoneAlarm entry.
7. Click the Uninstall / Change ribbon in the top menu.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation of Microsoft Access.After you have successfully uninstalled your Error 1603-associated program (eg ZoneAlarm), reinstall the program

Solution 2: Change the installation location

You may encounter a 1603 error because the installation location you chose is not available for various reasons, such as encryption. You can use another installation folder to install the program and see if the error is gone.

Solution 3: Clean up your unwanted system (temporary files and folders) with disk cleanup (cleanmgr)

How to perform cleanmgr (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10):

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type “command” in the search field .Do not press ENTER for the moment
3. While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, press ENTER.
4. An authorization dialog box will be required. Click Yes
5. A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
6. Type “cleanmgr” and press ENTER.
7. Disk Cleanup begins to calculate the amount of hard disk space you can recover.
8. The Disk Cleanup dialog box appears with a series of check boxes that you can select. In most cases, the “Temporary Files” category will occupy the most disk space.
9. Check the boxes of the categories you want to clean and click OK.

Solution 4: Repair the registry entries associated with Error 1603

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to Error 1603 (eg ZoneAlarm):

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type “command” in the search field .Do not  press ENTER for the moment
3. While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, press ENTER.
4. An authorization dialog box will be required. Click Yes.
5. A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
6. Type “regedit” and press ENTER.
7. In the Registry Editor, select the Error 1603-related key (eg. ZoneAlarm) you want to back up.
8. From the File menu, choose Export.
9. In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the ZoneAlarm backup key.
10. In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as “ZoneAlarm Backup”.
11. In the Export Range box, make sure that “Selected Branch” is selected. Click Save.
12. The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
13. You now have a copy of your ZoneAlarm-related registry entry.
